In the 30 years of his career, Dennis Martire has had many successes and achievements for those who are part of the Laborers’ International Union of North America (LIUNA). Since 2002, Martire has acted in the elected role of vice president and regional manager of the mid-Atlantic region. And within this region, he’s accomplished a lot!
One of those successes is the creation of a new labor union chapter. Dennis Martire was a key leader in the initiative that gave workers on the Fluor-Lane’s expansion of Route 495 and its Hot Lanes Project more onus into their working conditions. He gave them a choice to join a union. The workers on this project overwhelmingly voted in favor of the union, which later began LIUNA Local 11. More than 200 workers became represented by Local 11. Martire’s work and this union development represent one of the largest union victories within the construction industry in the state of Virginia.
