Way back in March of 2000, Dennis Martire was appointed to the position of Assistant Regional Manager of the Mid-Atlantic Region of the Laborers International Union of North America, or (LiUNA). About two years later, he was elected as their Vice President and Regional Manager. Dennis Martire can also clim rightly that he was also tightly involved with the Laborers’ Health and Safety Fund of North America (LHSFNA) and he serves LiUNA well. In addition to union activities for LiUNA, Dennis Martire also see as a Trustee for the Mid-Atlantic Laborers’ Employers Cooperation and Education Trust (MALECET).
Dennis Martire is probably best recognized for his work over the past several decades as a leader in LiUNA. Over the course of three full decades, Dennis Martire has shown great leadership on many very impressive and very successful LiUNA initiatives, including a process to allow the many workers on Fluor-Lane’s expansion of the Route 495 Hot Lanes Project to express a choice as to whether to join a union. That turned out to be a very important initiative, since the workers voted overwhelmingly to unionize and to become members of LiUNA Local 11. That effort is often mentioned as one of the best and most impressive union victories in the Virginia construction industry; certainly the first in many years.
